Eliza Wins Bronze...A Moment in Time by Angie

Eliza Wins Bronze
By Angie
I arrive in my seat just as the speaker starts talking, “Eliza McCartney!” I wriggled excitedly. Beep! Goes the speaker. Eliza runs forward with glee. Everyone is silent. Eliza flings through the air. As she comes near me I smell the black paste on her hands. Her hair flies everywhere. She grins happily in the air. She does a perfected jump into the sky. My eyes pop out! She flips over the bar. She falls down with a thump onto an inflatable mattress. The crowd goes wild! I join in the cheering. I hope I can get her autograph. Soon they announce the winners. “ In third place we have… Eliza McCartney!” “Yay!” I shout. I wonder if she will get Silver or Gold next time?

A Moment in Time...Eliza McCartney by Karthiga

I am now at the Olympic Stadium at Rio De Janeiro waiting anxiously. What is going to happen? I am in deep thought, as I am wondering. I can see the 19 year old putting on the black paste with all the other competitors. They give her a pole. This is it...I hold my breath. It is so quiet you can hear a pin drop.

The crowd is roaring in the background and then the Olympian shoots off like a rocket actively. She jumps over and her hair springing as she is flying like an angel down to the inflatable matress. The slim pole hits the ground. She is so happy she can scream her head off. I can see the coach has the same reaction. I can smell her armpits perspiring and she continues to get happier and happier. She is very delighted. I yell, “GO ELIZA! WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU!  The crowd goes wild. SHE DID IT!
After awhile, they announce the winners, “For Bronze, Eliza McCartney!” “Hooray!” I say. Maybe I can get a picture of her. I can’t wait to see what she will win next... maybe silver or gold, I say to myself. Who knows?

Replanting Our Trees For Survival

Room 18 had a very important job today; we "pricked out" and replanted over two hundred tiny flax seedlings, as part of the Trees For Survival programme.

We worked so carefully as a team. Mrs Daniel was also very impressed with our problem solving skills; we worked out with 16 crates and each crate holding 52 seedlings, Senior students, Room 17 and 18 together, have replanted 832 seedlings. WOW!!

Why are we doing all of this? Well, in 12 months time, we'll have over eight hundred plants to create new habitats, prevent errosion and help fight global warming in our local area. We're doing vital work to create a sustainable future!
